In many cases, we are aiding and abetting our own cognitive biases that lead to a misdiagnosis.
It’s important that, as physicians, we take the time to recognize these unconscious biases, overcompensate when we need to and ask for opinions from trusted co-workers.
Often these are formed from experience all the way from childhood and it’s not always simple to identify them nor are they always negative.
